What Is a Mouse Test?
A mouse button test checks that each button on your mouse sends a signal to your browser. It covers the left button, the right button and the middle button, which is the scroll wheel click. It also helps you notice a mouse that clicks twice by mistake.
How to Test Your Mouse
- Click the LEFT box with the left mouse button.
- Click the MIDDLE box by pressing the scroll wheel.
- Click the RIGHT box with the right mouse button. The usual right click menu is blocked inside the boxes.
- Read the status line to see which button was detected and how many times.
How to Spot a Double Click Problem
Click once, slowly. The counter should go up by exactly one. If one physical click adds two to the total, your mouse switch is wearing out and registers a double click. This is a common fault on older mice and can ruin drags, selections and games.
Common Mouse Problems
The most common issues are double clicking, a left button that does not always register, a scroll wheel that does not click, and a cursor that jumps. Dust, worn micro switches, low batteries and a bad wireless connection are the usual causes.
Quick Fixes
Clean the mouse with compressed air, change the batteries, plug a wireless receiver into a closer port, and try the mouse on another computer. Also check your system settings for double click speed.
